IB Predicted Grades

March 4, 2020

Many US universities ask for predicted grades as part of the application from IB students applying from international schools, but how much weight do universities place on these grades? Are universities using early predicted grades as ‘first term’ grades, or are they being disregarded as a mere guess? Do they hold students and schools accountable for meeting actual IB scores? We see much stress, pressure, and negotiation when predictions are being formulated. We see confusion about how predicted grades should be calculated. How much of the IB content has been covered when teachers are asked to produce predicted grades for early and regular applications? Do teachers use the Subject Briefs outlined by the IBO when they predict their grades, and if not, what goes into their predictions, and are they valid? Have they had any training on how to predict, and do they feel that they are able to produce reliably predicted grades? Have schools developed internal standardization on how teachers should predict, and do schools follow a similar approach? The aim of this webinar is to provide answers to these questions and guidelines for producing valid predictions.
