President’s Corner : Celebrating Success & Looking Ahead

President’s Corner : Celebrating Success & Looking Ahead
by Aaron Andersen, International ACAC President

Yesterday in my ‘day job’ at University of British Columbia, we
took time away from the regular work and routine to gather for
our yearly Staff Retreat. This year we took particular time to
focus on Celebration. It reminded me, that all too often, many
of us naturally focus on the stress and pressures of our day, and
do not take time to celebrate our successes.

For International ACAC, in this year-ending letter, I thought I
would continue this practice of celebrating successes by
focusing on the work the Association has achieved and the
progress your Executive Board has made in the past few
months, and will continue to work on in early 2019. In the spirit
of End-of-Year Best of Lists…

Best of International ACAC 2018 – Priorities Accomplished

● Opportunity Grants Launched - This December 15 is the deadline for submissions to be
considered for the very first round of Opportunity Grant funding for your projects and

● Commitment to Diversity Training – Continuing on the work of the past year, the board
has set aside budget to build a diversity training program connected to our Conference.
The selection of professional firm to operate the training is well on its way.

● Regional institutes – This past year International ACAC hosted our first institutes in
South Asia and Latin America. All total, over 200 members participated in these local
designed events – many for who this was their first exposure to our Association.

● Agents Language – Our membership team continues to develop and update our policies
with respect to third-party commissioned agents. Further resources to come.

● Committee & Board Service Application - Recently we launched both our committee
and board service application, alongside a webinar to explain the process and how to
become involved in the Association. Our Governance & Nominating Committee
continues to reach out to under-represented members of our association to encourage
them to run for Board service.

Looking ahead to the first half of 2019, our priorities as an Executive Board will include:

● Finalizing the pillars of our strategic plan through 2022
● Selection of Diversity Training educational partner for 2019 conference delivery
● Expand Community Engagement opportunities through hosting our first Regional
Institute in Eastern Europe
● Build online resources that meet the immediate needs of counseling professionals
● Review and define the best approaches to fundraising related to the new Global

Your Executive Board has a busy few months ahead as we work to deliver on these priorities
alongside supporting the day-to-day operations of our Association. Please consider getting
involved in our association through applying to be a part of a committee or election to the
Board. As always, I want to hear feedback on our efforts, and invite you to contact me with any
questions or concerns.

I wish you all the best for the holiday season, and hope you enjoy some well-deserved time to
be with friends, family, and loved ones.

Happy Holidays!
