Colleges and universities are offering short-term online and on-campus programs that offer a taste of what life would be like at their institution. Some offer a mixture of academic and social content, courses taught by tenured professors, and even an opportunity to earn credit. These programs provide a fantastic way to discover college life and an enriching summer experience. 

The following is a selection of 2023 summer enrichment programs offered at colleges and universities around the world from our member institutions. Note - none of these programs have been endorsed by International ACAC. Temple University, Japan Campus: Tokyo, Japan

High School Summer Program

August 2 - 10, 2023

TUJ invites high school students to a summer of language and cultural experiences in Tokyo. The 8-night program includes a unique mix of Japanese language classes and one of four exciting electives. With adventures in Tokyo, an overnight excursion to Nikko, and a trip to DisneySea, this will be your summer to remember!

UWC ISAK Japan: Karuizawa, Japan

UWC ISAK Japan Summer School

July 20 - August 1, 2023

UWC ISAK Japan’s Summer School is an exciting opportunity for middle school students to live and learn together on our beautiful campus in Karuizawa, Japan. Get a taste of life at UWC ISAK Japan! Summer School brings together bright, curious, motivated young people (ages 13-14) from a diverse range of countries, cultures and socio-economic backgrounds for what many students say is a “life-changing experience.”

Lakefield College School: Lakefield, Ontario

Lakefield Summer Academy

Varies from late June to early September, in general June 28 - July 28

Opportunities to explore new interests, strengthen leadership skills, and develop critical thinking skills outdoors on a 315 acre waterfront campus in Canada. 1-4 week high school credit and enrichment options grounded in authentic learning. Sample courses: Dance Intensive, Leaders in Training, Expressions of First Nations and Inuit Cultures, Learning English Outdoors, Seed-to-Table: Adventures in Eco-Farming, and Waterfront Certification.

The New School, Paris: Paris, France

Parsons Paris Summer Pre-College

July 2 to July 22, 2023

Parsons Paris offers a pre-college program that introduces high school students to the art and design college experience through an immersive course of study taught in English in Paris. The program is open to high school students entering their junior or senior year and to recent high school graduates. Applicants must be 16–18 years of age by the start of the course. All Summer Intensive Studies courses can be taken in order to develop a portfolio for the college admissions process.

Michigan Technological University: Houghton, Michigan

Summer Youth Programs

June 18 - August 5, 2023

For over 50 years, Summer Youth Programs at Michigan Tech has offered students in grades 6-11 hands-on, residential educational explorations focused on the needs of tomorrow. Participants come from 35 states and 14 countries on average to experience college in a fun, engaging, and safe environment while also exploring their academic interests. In each of our 70+ weeklong programs, participants are hands-on in the lab or in the field with Michigan Tech faculty, staff, and students during the day, and take part in activities, games, and outdoor adventures in the evenings. Registration for next summer opens in December 2022.- over 70 programs to choose from- each program is one week long, with option to stay for multiple programs- 40% of participants (including international!) receive scholarship to attend- custom programs available for schools groups and cohortsWe also invite exceptional educators to consider applying to our Visiting Instructor Program--if selected, you'll teach a course of your own design as part of our program and a student from your school will also receive a full scholarship to of a program of their choosing.

UChicago Summer Session

Immerse yourself in one of your passions and take advantage of the rich educational resources offered by the University of Chicago through our Summer Session programs for high school students. In these undergraduate-level courses, you will get personalized attention from faculty, researchers, and other professionals who will lead you through workshop discussions, research projects, and other hands-on activities.Whether you’re looking for creative writing workshops, preview courses in STEM fields, or to explore theories of ethics, philosophy, and free expression, UChicago Summer Session courses offer you the opportunity to explore a topic of interest in-depth.

U.S.A. - Northeast  

Lehigh University: Bethlehem, PA
June 25 - July 22, 2023

Do you have what it takes to innovate? Enhance your abilities in entrepreneurship, leadership, and global citizenship as part of an international network of emerging leaders from across the U.S. and around the world at the Iacocca Global Entrepreneurship Intensive. IGEI is an immersive, hands-on program that combines experiential learning and intercultural connection. After completing the program, IGEI graduates can 1) evaluate the potential of ideas to become successful innovations; 2) create functional business/marketing plans and compelling pitches; and 3) navigate cultural differences and collaborate to succeed as a team. Participants take a deep dive into an area of interest, such as sustainability, population health, or business, led by Lehigh University faculty. Core sessions in sustainable design, social entrepreneurship, disruptive leadership, and business ethics prepare teams for design challenges, a business hackathon, and real consulting work developing solutions for a US or international client organization. Learn how to think like an entrepreneur and recognize problems as creative opportunities at the Iacocca Global Entrepreneurship Intensive.

Jumpstart College Success Academy

July 5 - July 19, 2023

The Jumpstart College Success Academy is an opportunity for students overseas to brush up on important academic skills, learn required university technology, and prepare early for college life. It includes a one-credit virtual, live and interactive course focused on Speech Communication and University Life, in which you will learn about university culture, develop your academic communication and study skills, and engage virtually with Lehigh University teachers, staff and students on campus. You will meet online with the teacher and other students as a whole class at times, and at other times you will meet individually with the teacher and in small groups online. In the Jumpstart College Success Academy, you will: • Interview and engage with university staff, students, and professors • Experience the demands and expectations of a US college class • Make new friends and communicate informally outside of class • Learn how to and give multi-modal presentations using innovative technology • Learn how to communicate with your professors and advisors and advocate for yourself • Learn about university resources for success • Take TOEFL practice tests and receive help on your college application essay

The Catholic University of America Experiences in Architecture

The Experiences in Architecture (EiA) program at the Catholic University of America is a pre-college workshop for students interested in architecture or other design-related fields. Students are exposed to both the academic and professional sides of the architectural arena, as the city of Washington, D.C., becomes their classroom.

Engineering New Frontiers

July 17 - July 21, 2023

This experience for high school students is a weeklong, residential academic summer course for high schoolers, intended for students entering junior and senior years. The Institute will feature modern laboratory exercises, engineering design workshops, coding bootcamps, and prototyping work taught by expert faculty, as well as entertainment, cultural, and technical experiences in the DC area. Campers will learn more about college and career opportunities. Students in the camp will stay in Catholic University residence halls and experience campus life, and will receive a $1000 scholarship to Catholic University undergraduate Engineering programs. Students in the camp will stay in Catholic University residence halls and experience campus life, and the camp will include off-campus activities including technical tours and entertainment.

University of the Incarnate Word: San Antonio, Texas

UIW Language and Culture Summer Camp

July 9 - July 22, 2023

The annual UIW Language and Culture Camp is a 2-week program in July open to 12-17 year old international students interested in improving their English skills, gaining study abroad experience in the USA, and meeting new friends from all over the world! Students attend English classes each morning Monday through Friday, with excursions in the afternoons and on weekends. Students stay on the UIW campus in dormitory accommodations. All meals, insurance, excursions, English lessons and accommodations included in one affordable price.

Santa Clara University: Santa Clara, California

Summer Engineering Seminar

Session One: July 10-14 Session Two: July 17-21 Session Three: July 24-28 (2022 dates, 2023 will be forthcoming)

This outstanding, five-day immersion summer experience is for current high school sophomores and juniors who are interested in exploring the field of engineering. The program offers specially designed introductory workshops taught by our engineering faculty that are presented as a mix of lecture and interactive work, spanning several fields of engineering. Participants will also get a taste of university life and the academic expectations of college, all while living in the dorms during the program. While interacting with our faculty, students, and other members of the SCU community throughout the week.

Program Cost: All on-site fees for the SES Program are paid by the School of Engineering along with gifts from various corporate sponsors and foundations, resulting in no costs for participants who are accepted into the program.

Santa Clara University: Santa Clara, California

Spring Engineering Education Days

2023 dates will be forthcoming- tend to be in March and April on Sundays

The SEEDs program provides high school sophomores and juniors with a unique opportunity to begin exploring engineering in hopes for fostering future engineering study. Participants join Santa Clara University, School of Engineering on three Sundays in April to attend workshops providing an introduction to various engineering disciplines. Topics will include: Bioengineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science & Engineering, Electrical Engineering, General Engineering and Mechanical Engineering. All workshops are introductory in nature and will include a mixture of lecture presentations and hands-on experiences facilitated by Santa Clara University professors. Participants will attend all workshops to be provided with a broad understanding of various engineering disciplines and careers.

Program Cost: SEEDs is sponsored by the School of Engineering and local industry, which enables us to offer the program at no cost to students who are accepted.

Global Girls Prep: Nationwide, Virtual

Women in Action

June & July 2023

The WIA Program introduces women-identified and gender expansive high school students to gender studies and feminism as a theoretical, academic discipline and as a practical, actionable way of life! When you join WIA, you are part of a cohort of 4-8 students, moving through the program together. WIA gives students the tools to make their voices heard through small group discussions on current topics in gender equity (see below), 1:1 mentoring that helps students identify their personal values, and access to speakers/workshops that build a supportive network of adults who will help position them for future success in college and beyond. NEW COHORTS BEGIN IN SEPTEMBER, MARCH & JUNE.

National Student Leadership Conference: Nationwide

The NSLC hosts career-focused, leadership development conferences each summer for outstanding middle and high school students from around the world.
